MADRID METRO INTERACTIVE VIRTUAL REALITY ZONE

13 de enero de 2020

The Community of Madrid and Madrid Metro have opened an interactive virtual reality simulation zone. The simulator is located at the historic train exhibition at Chamartín station, which has been open for the last year to celebrate the centenary of the Madrid Metro system.

Thanks to cutting edge 3D and virtual reality technology, this new immersive space will take visitors on a virtual journey to the origins of the metro system. Visitors will have the chance to ride the metro system like any other passenger, visit the different stations, and enter and depart from each platform.

CITEF has played a key role in creating this virtual reconstruction, which involved extensive historiographic analysis, and creating a simulation of the first two metro lines to operate in 1919 and 1923, including passengers and the city surface at the two most emblematic stations of the line: Sol and Gran Vía.

In addition, CITEF has virtually reconstructed the first set of rolling stock to operate on the Madrid Metro system, which visitors can drive at the exhibition.

The new interactive zone will remain open until 2 February. Entrance is free and visitors will enjoy a guided tour led by our expert technical staff. Visitors must register in advance on the Metro Museum website.
